Guide of Building Permit Process

A building permit is required before undertaking or continuing the building, locating or relocating, demolishing, altering or replacing of a building or structure. Changing the use of a building or land may also require a permit. The building permit's primary role is to protect the property owner, adjacent properties and the community by assuring that the development is in conformity with regulations, by-laws, and the National Building Code. Applications should be completed one-week minimum before starting any work. More time will be needed if a re-zoning or a variance is required. Legal documents may be required in order to prove the owndership of the land. For more information, contact the Restigouche Planning District Commission at 789-2595

Summer Splash 2008

The Executive Committee of the 10th Edition of Summer Splash, (Co-President Ghislaine Brideau, Co-President Nicole LeBlanc, Vice-President Denis McIntyre, Secretary - Colette Arseneault, & Treasurer - Linda Marcoux) would like to thank everyone, who participated in making this year such a success.

Such an event could not be possible without the continuing support of our volunteers. They unselfishly donate their time and so much more to ensure the enjoyment for so many others. The excitement of the event as it unfolds and gratification of seeing the look of enjoyment on the faces of young and old alike seems to make it all worthwhile.

We applaud and thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts and look forward to working with you again soon.

We would also like to encourage others to come forward and become volunteers. There are many outstanding organizations in our community that could benefit from your generosity!

The Committee of Active CHARLO Actif

The Committee of Active CHARLO Actif is a newly formed organizational structure for the municipality of Charlo and the various organizations throughout the community. Active CHARLO Actif was created in order to facilitate and increase the access of the entire population to sports, recreation, leisure and cultural activities. This has resulted in the creation of a new position:

Recreation & Community Service Coordinator for the Village of Charlo.

Active CHARLO Actif is pleased to welcome Mr. Reginald Vienneau as the new Coordinator for the Community of Charlo. The office of the new Coordinator is located on the ground floor of the municipal building of Charlo. His office can be reached by calling 684-7852, Faxing 684-7855 or by email: rvienneau@villagecharlo.com

Mr. Vienneau will be working closely with the various organizations throughout the year offering support and assistance in an effort to promote sports, recreation, leisure and cultural activities. He will also be working on creating a Community Events Calendar for all of the Village of Charlo, developing a web site for Active CHARLO Actif to view promotions and events of the various organizations, promoting volunteering and the positive impact it has on the community, creating contact lists of all organizations and their volunteers, researching and applying for funding (assistance), taking reservations for tent rentals, taking reservations for tables and/or Kiosks for the Fall Fair, to name a few. Reginald welcomes all the organizations in the community to come in to discuss the dates of their events, their needs, future projects, storage issues, or whatever.

“If you are a new organization or are planning on organizing a committee to promote some sports, recreation, leisure and/or cultural activity, then please contact me! It is very important that you register your group with Active CHARLO Actif! It is equally important that you attend the meetings of Active CHARLO Actif in order to represent your organization and voice their concerns! I look forward to meeting and working with everyone within the greater Community of Charlo. ”Remember staying active is the secret to staying healthy and enjoying a better quality of life!”…..Reginald Vienneau

The Executive of Active CHARLO Actif Committee are:
  • Luc Levesque - President
  • Marc Levesque - Vice President
  • Lee Chamberlain - Treasurer
  • Pauline Carrier - Secretary

The Committee of Active CHARLO Actif is composed of 18 community organizations and is expected to grow. Each organization has (1) vote regardless of their size and importance. We encourage any new or existing organizations that are not currently members to call the Recreation and Community Services Coordinator to register their group with the committee. We also would like to encourage not only the many volunteers to take part in the upcoming events but all the citizens of Charlo as well. The guaranteed success of many events is directly influenced by the number of its volunteers, and community participation. You are welcomed to show your support and appreciation!

Thank you,

Luc Levesque, President

Active CHARLO Actif Committee

Message from the Mayor

The day after the elections of May 12, the new council was already busy at work. As you may be aware, several projects were already underway and the new council wanted to continue their progress. In addition, the outgoing council was working on the tourism project and an infrastructure project important for the municipality.

For the infrastructure project tenders were received and a company will be chosen in the near future. The project is expected to begin in August. For the tourism project, a meeting took place in Fredericton to discuss the next steps in the project. A request for financial assistance will be sent to the provincial government so that we can complete the engineering of the project.

In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the citizens of Charlo who demonstrated their confidence in me during the elections on May 12. I am convinced that the new council will be very dynamic and will represent you with the best of their abilities. I therefore pledge to work with them to push forward all projects of the municipality and work on your priorities.

Andre Carrier works with the Airport Commission

Andre Carrier works with the new mayors in order to establish a new Airport Commission

As you are already aware, the swearing in of the newly elected municipal councils of Charlo, Dalhousie and Campbellton took place at the end of May. Since then the mayors have chosen their members who will represent them on the Airport Commission. A meeting of the new members is scheduled for July 3, 2008.

This meeting will be very important. The new members must elect a new executive and discuss projects that are currently underway.

As mentioned above, certain projects were implemented by an advisory committee chosen by the former Commission to fill a need for fuel. To clarify, the existing fuel system no longer meets the required standards. A local company will be chosen to design and engineer a new fueling system.

As you can see, the new commission will be faced with some challenges. We must continue to work together in order to identify new opportunities to diversify our airport.
